Almond Plum Kuchen

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup ground almonds
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
3/4 cup cold butter or margarine
FILLING:
3 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup ground almonds
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
7 cups quartered fresh plums -- (7 to 8)
TOPPING:
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1/2 cup sliced almonds

In a bowl, combine the first four ingredients; cut in butter until the
mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x
2-in. baking dish. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, beat eggs and sugar until thick and
lemon-colored, about 5 minutes. Stir in flour, almonds, orange peel and
baking powder. Arrange plums over crust; pour egg mixture over plums.
Combine the first three topping ingredients; sprinkle over filling. Top
with almonds. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 12
servings.
